Construction of a medical incinerator with annex work block,  laboratory materials and equipment for the maternity in the health centre of Mbogora (Burundi)

Financing by Vleugels van Hoop   : 9.250 Euro

Context

In July 2011 the health centre of Mbogora received medical materials from vzw Vleugels van Hoop.
A remarkable improvement is noticeable, both in reception and patient care in terms of hospitalised patients.

Before, the centre got a quotation of 79% from the Ministry of Public Health and the anti-aids program to improve care. At the moment (3rd trimester 2012) we have a quotation of 89%. This thanks to the help of Vleugels van Hoop.

Despite above mentioned good quotation the centre has a big shortage on important material, i.e. a medical incinerator, an adjusted work block and materials for both the laboratory as the maternity.

Objectives

Health improvement of all people who stay in the centre
Protection of the sanitary environment of the health centre
A suitable place for waste processing of products and expired medications
Burning and digging in all kind of toxic material
Making the working environment healthy
Simplifying the sanitary maintenance
Improvement of the health care by a well-equipped laboratory
Offering a safe childbirth to future mothers

Follow-up of the project
June 2013.

General status:

The health center Mbogora is proud of the state of the infrastructure and the equipment of maternity ward, laboratory, ... A positive appreciation of our position opposite the sanitary surroundings and the hierarchical medical inspectors is no longer a dream.

Progress since last status report:

Quotation by the Provincial Inspection of the Ministry of Health is 88.6 % for the first quarter of 2013. We expect an even better quotation for the beginning of July, because the incinerator is now available. The services of the laboratory, of the medical consultations and of the maternity ward improve the day to day

Two wells of 12 m deep were dug to throw in non-biodegradable placenta, and other medical materials such as bottles of the medicines. Our sincere thanks to everyone who has contributed to close or far to the improvement of the medical condition of the patients who come to our aid station, but also for the improvement of the health environment of the Mbogora health center.

Financial status:

The Financial report of the project "41 Mbogora incinerator" will follow.

Problems/concerns:

For the moment we have no great problems, we are waiting for the actual start of the incinerator.
Our concern: an incubator for premature babies.

Final report.

République du Burundi
Ministère de la Santé Publique et de la lutte contre SIDA
District sanitaire de Kibumbu
Centre de santé de Mbogora

To the members of the association Vleugels van Hoop,

In the name of the center Mbogora we want to great you in the first place and then thank you for your continuing sympathy. In the month of July 2011, the center received all the medical equipment, by which we could improve the quality of care. After receipt of the material we have made a request for laboratory material, material for the maternity and an incinerator.
Detail of the material:
Laboratory material :

  • Centrifuge
  • Hemoglobinemeter
  • Platinum loop
  • Fuchsine
  • Sulphuric acid
  • Creoline
  • Oil
  • Giemsa
  • Methylene blue
  • Albumine strips
  • Diabetes strips
  • Gentiaanviolet
  • Diamant tip

Material maternity :

  • Delivery table
  • Warming lamp
  • Plastic apron

On the local market, we could order almost all material except sulphuric acid, diabetes strips and diamant tip.
Concerning the 3 sections (laboratory, maternity and incinerator)the  3 beneficiaries in terms of financing, we realized a noticeable improvement in relation to our quotation. With the help of Vleugels van Hoop we are with head and shoulders far above the other centers. Once again our sincere thanks for this.
Dear benefactors, notwithstanding all the material, the center needs further support , in particular a sustainable fence to protect the center and the patients, a copier and computer, a microscope and a car that could serve as ambulance.
Our staff wishes to fraternize with Vleugels van Hoop. Please accept our sincere feelings of cooperation.

For the center of  Mbogora,

Mevr. Olive NDAYISHIMIYE
